SASS handy tips to help you

Completion of SASS is a legal requirement of The Child Minding and Day Care (Wales) Regulations 2010.

If you run a childcare and play service, you must complete your SASS using CIW Online by 15 March 2024. You will need to have a CIW Online account to complete your SASS. If you do not have a CIW Online account you need to take urgent action.

This is a legal requirement for all childminders and childcare and play providers who registered with us before 31 December 2023. Providers who registered with us after 31 December 2023 will not need to complete the SASS this year.

Help with completing your SASS 

Completing your SASS is quick and easy via your CIW Online account. We’ve put together the ‘how to’ video below and a guidance booklet to talk you through how to complete your SASS.

How to complete your Self Assessment of Service Statement 2024

  1. From CIW Online, click 'sign in' and enter your email address and password to access your online account.
  2. Click 'open SASS'.
  3. Click 'edit' in the SASS January 24 box to take you to the SASS home page.
  4. Most of this section will be pre-populated for you but please make sure the information is correct.  Run through each question carefully.
  5. If the answer is correct, click the tick.
  6. If the answer is NOT correct, click the cross. When you click the cross, you will be prompted to update your details.
  7. If you are happy with all the answers, click 'save section'.
  8. All the services included in your SASS return will be listed here. You must complete all service information before the SASS can be submitted. Click 'edit' to get started. 
    Each service is split into four sections: 
    • Service profile 
    • Service finance 
    • Service delivery 
    • Running your service 
  9. Click the plus symbol to view and complete each section. When you click the cross, you will be prompted to update your details.
  10. Once you are happy with all the answers, click 'save section'.
  11. Click 'declare and submit'.
  12. You can download a PDF of your SASS before you submit it. Just click 'download copy of SASS'.
  13. Ensure you are happy with the information provided in our privacy notice and you are happy to proceed.
  14. Check the 'certify' box to confirm the information you have provided is accurate. Click 'submit'.

You will receive an email to confirm you have completed your SASS. Please keep the email in case you need to contact us about your SASS.
