Self Assessment of Service Statement will go live on 13 February
We will soon be writing to all childcare and play providers about their Self Assessment of Service Statement (SASS) 2026.
What is SASS?
SASS is an online form that Registered Persons and Responsible Individuals are required to complete. This is a legal requirement for all childminders and childcare and play providers.
What do we do with the data?
The information providers give us through their SASS submission helps us to plan our inspections and provide the right help and support to those that need it most. The data from across Wales will be collated and anonymised and published later in 2026. If you'd like to see how the information is used, you can view the SASS 2025 data summary here.
Important information for all childcare and play providers:
- If you run a childcare and play service, you are required to complete your SASS using CIW Online by 27 March 2026.
- If you do not complete your SASS by this date, it will impact your future ratings.
- You will need to have a CIW Online account to complete your SASS.
- If you do not have a CIW Online account, you need to take urgent action:
- visit CIW Online (External link)
- or call us on 0300 7900 126 and select option 4
IMPORTANT: Due to essential system maintenance, CIW Online will not be available from midday on Wednesday 28 January to 9.00am on Wednesday 4 February.
