St Padarn's Playgroup
Celebrating diversity and every child’s heritage.

Background
St Padarn's Playgroup is a full day care service in Ceredigion, offering up to 19 spaces for children aged 2-4 years.
The team is passionate about childcare and proud to create a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated and every child feels they belong.
What are they doing differently?
Celebrating diversity and individual heritage is central to St Padarn's practice. They take practical steps to ensure every family feel welcomed, accepted and respected, including:
- using greetings from children's home languages, such as "o dabo" (goodbye in Yoruba), alongside Welsh phrases like "bore da" (good morning)
- inviting parents to share their language, experiences and culture with staff and children, helping children feel proud and accepted
- celebrating both Welsh heritage and each family's individual heritage equally, promoting mutual respect and understanding
- creating a display board showing each child with a greeting in their home language, making diversity visible and valued every day
St Padarn’s celebrates every child’s language and heritage, creating an inclusive environment where children feel proud and families feel valued.
Impact ...
- Children settle quickly, showing the success of this inclusive approach
- Parents feel proud when their heritage is recognised
- Children feel confident and accepted, and families enjoy sharing their culture
- Celebrating each child’s background helps families feel welcome and creates a true sense of belonging
Quote
“Celebrating each child’s heritage, language and background is vital for families to feel welcome and for children to have a true sense of belonging.”
Sarah Jenkins, Manager at St Padarn’s Playgroup
