Codi Serennau

Codi Serennau is a day care setting in Cwmbran, located on a Federation School site with extensive grounds including Forest School and on-site chickens. They focus on creating positive family partnerships to support children's transitions and development.

Codi Serennau has transformed family engagement through their ‘Stay and Play’ sessions. They create meaningful learning and bonding opportunities with the staff and for the whole family through:

• seasonal themed sessions like ‘Pumpkin Patch’ where families create scarecrows, hunt for pumpkins, and make a variety of crafts
• ‘Fun Food’ where parents explore healthy recipes like tzatziki dip, and discover ways to encourage varied eating at home and at day care
• 'What's my Purpose' displays at each activity, helping parents understand learning developments and practice at home
• offering inclusive and flexible participation by extending invitations to any family members if parents cannot attend, with advance notice and alternating sessions

These effective ‘Stay and Plays’ help bridge home and day care, while empowering parents with practical skills to support their children's development.

• Families better understand how their children learn through play and often continue activities at home
• Children eat a wider range of foods and are more independent
