We welcome your views about our joint inspection programme with Estyn

There are online workshops taking place on 21 March for eligible settings to get involved.

Alongside Estyn we jointly inspect those childcare and play services which offer an element of funded education, known as ‘non-maintained’.

The joint inspection programme has now been running for five years, so the two inspectorates have commissioned an independent review to identify areas of positive practice as well as areas for improvement.

This aligns with CIW’s guiding principles of being intelligence-led; working collaboratively; supporting improvement and innovation; and reflecting and learning.

Independent evaluators

An independent agency, the Learning Partnership, is undertaking the review and will be speaking to a range of stakeholders including inspectors and other staff in both inspectorates; parents and carers of children using non-maintained provision; providers and their representatives including umbrella organisations and local authorities; and Welsh Government policy officials in both childcare and education.
