Registration guidance now available for special school residential services
These services must register with us by the end of June.
Earlier this year, Welsh Government consulted on draft regulations to define and regulate special school residential services, formerly known as residential special schools.
The Regulated Services (Special School Residential Services) (Wales) Regulations 2023 and the Regulated Services (Registration) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 came into force on 31 December 2023.
The new regulations will define "special school residential service" as a new regulated service under section 2 of the 2016 Act, and require them to register with us. We have updated our guidance to help those services formerly known as residential special schools, to register with us.
Registering with us
These services will not be required to register with us immediately. An updated version of our registration guidance is now available, as well as a template to help providers prepare a statement of purpose.
The online portal will go live in April 2024 and will close on 30 June 2024.
