Our joint inspections of Child Protection Arrangements (JICPA) will resume this year

We previously took part in JICPA work in Neath Port Talbot in 2021 and Newport in 2019.

Following previous successful joint inspections, the 2023/24 JICPA programme will be a systems review of child protection in each regional safeguarding board and police force area in Wales, to identify positive practice and any areas for improvement.

Safeguarding children is a multi-agency responsibility which is why we work with fellow inspectorates Estyn, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, and His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue, on these inspections.

For the 2023/24 programme our focus will be on the protection of children aged 11 and under at risk of abuse and neglect.

This follows a series of tragic deaths of children in Wales and England in the last year.

The first JICPA inspection will take place in Denbighshire this month.
