Coronavirus (COVID-19): Registration and variations for childcare and play services

We are continuing to process new childcare and play services registrations and variations to conditions for already registered services.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognise there may be a need to increase capacity in the childcare and play sector to ensure that there are sufficient placements available for childcare and play services when parents start returning to work.

Whilst we have paused our routine inspection regime, our registration teams are continuing to prioritise registration and variation work that supports providers to provide services as a result of COVID-19.

To enable our registration work to continue we have adapted some of our processes outlined below. Further Guidance for applicants and providers in response to COVID-19 can be accessed at the bottom of this page.

Site visits

Site visits will only occur when there are no other means of assessing the suitability of the premises. We can use different methods to gain the information that we need about your premises, such as a premises checklist and looking around your premises via Skype.

DBS checks

We will be adopting alternative methods of identification checking remotely, for example via Skype.

Interviews

We will be meeting with applicants and Responsible Individuals remotely, including to undertake registration interviews.

Please work with us by using CIW Online to keep submitting your childcare and play applications.
