Joint statement between CIW and Estyn in relation to non-maintained childcare settings
Supporting your sector following the suspension of inspection activities due to COVID-19.
We are all living in uncertain and challenging times. All areas of childcare, education and training have been severely affected by COVID-19. Re-opening provision for all your children is likely to take time.
We will not carry out joint inspections too soon and only when it is safe and appropriate to do so. Together CIW and Estyn have decided that the current suspension of joint inspections of non-maintained settings will continue until at least 31 December 2020. We will review the situation in the autumn and consider the options for restarting the joint inspection programme in the future. We aim to give the sector at least 6 weeks’ notice before resuming routine joint inspections.
Over the coming months each inspectorate will make separate arrangements for getting in touch with a sample of settings but we will share relevant information from these engagement activities where necessary. These will focus on safety, wellbeing and engagement in learning as appropriate.
We hope that you, your children, staff and community stay safe and well.
